GIS unit is well equipped with latest hardware and software facilities. It has skilled technical manpowers.
Hardware:
GIS unit is equipped with a large number of GIS instrument such as; GPS, DGPS, Digitizer, Total Station, a number of computers, servers etc.
Software:
Different GIS and Remote Sensing software are used such as; ArcView 3.2, ArcGIS 9.2 and 9.3, ERDAS IMAGINE 9.2, MultispecW32 etc.
Human Resource & Training:
A number of different level GIS professional are working to implement the GIS activities in this unit. The professionals have received several training in home and abroad to update professional knowledge and skills. As part of commitment to collaborate with other government agencies, GIS Unit provided training and sharing data for the greater interest of the nation. The following are the recipient organizations of GIS training from LGED.

- Directorate of Land and Record Survey, Bangladesh (2004)
- Barind Multipurpose Development Authority, Bangladesh (2003)
Moreover we provided training to LGED officials in different times for institutional capacity building.
Apart from training activities, GIS unit of LGED has organized different national and international seminar and workshop to exchange views and sharing knowledge & techniques. The major workshops/seminars were as follows;
(i) A dissemination workshop on “Decision Support Toolbox for Ecosystem Management” was jointly organized by the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) and LGED at LGED HQ in Dhaka on 25 August, 2010. A total number of 25 scientists, researchers and professionals working in the field of environment, disaster, ecosystem and natural resources were present at the workshop.
(ii) “National Workshop on Development & Harmonization of Land Cover Classification of Bangladesh within the HKH Region” was jointly organized by the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) and LGED at LGED HQ in Dhaka from 21st to 24th December, 2009. 21 professionals from national institutions working in the field of natural resources; forestry, land use and land cover studies were present there.
(iii) “International Seminar for Sustainable Rural Development” was jointly organized by LGED and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) at LGED HQ from 03 to 05 September, 2005. In total 82 officials in different capacity among with 20 esteemed resources persons from different countries of South East Asia were present at the seminar.
